North Carolina law requires Wake Tech to provide access to student educational records, without the student's consent, to the parent or legal guardian of any student younger than 18 if the student is claimed as a dependent on the parent's or guardian's federal tax return. Administrators and counselors of any K-12 school where the student may be dually enrolled also are provided access to those records under state law.
Students 18 or older control access to their educational records under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). They may choose to grant access to a parent, guardian, spouse or other individual at any time.
For students younger than 18 who are claimed as a dependent on your federal tax return, email [email protected] to request access.
For students 18 or older and anyone not claimed as a dependent for federal tax purposes, the student must grant you access.
Students log in to Self-Service and select Parent/Proxy Access under their user ID in the upper right corner. Depending on whether the parent/proxy information is a possible duplicate of someone already in Wake Tech's system, the request might be processed immediately in the system, or it might be pending and need research by the Registrar's Office.
If your child previously completed a paper FERPA form or granted access to you in WebAdvisor, he or she must grant you access again in Self-Service.

Once a student 18 or older has granted you access, emails will be sent with confirmation and user ID/password information. You will then be able to access your child's information online through Self-Service. You will not need to complete any forms or call the college.
Parents of dependent students younger than 18 can see all educational records, including grades, course lists, attendance, disciplinary actions and financial aid information.
For parents of other students, it depends on the type of access you have been granted. You may be able to see your child's grades, financial aid award, tuition bills and 1098-T forms. You also can pay the tuition bill.
If the student is younger than 18 and you claim him or her as a dependent on your federal tax return, yes.
If the student isn't a dependent or if 18 or older, he or she must grant you access for you to be able to view his or her academic and/or financial information in Self-Service. If you have access, you use your regular Key Account and password.

Wake Tech uses Touchnet as its payment vendor. The student must first set up access by creating an "Authorized User." Once consent forms are completed, the parent will be issued an email with further instructions on how to set up the account and password to allow payments.
Only your student can grant and/or revoke your Self-Service access. Please contact your student.
