Information for New CCP Students

Students who are new to Wake Tech’s Career & College Promise (CCP) program, including those who may have obtained CCP credits from another institution, should complete the following steps in order. Remember to check the Important Dates and Deadlines list throughout the process to make sure you don’t miss important deadlines.

1. Watch the information session

The online information session is available 24/7 and covers eligibility requirements, the application process, pathway options and course offerings. Parents are encouraged to watch as well.

2. Explore pathways and eligibility requirements

Wake Tech offers CCP students both a College Transfer pathway for those who plan to continue their education at a four-year college or university and a Career and Technical Education pathway for those seeking skills for immediate employment.

Students can take up to two pathways, but if they do, one must be a Career and Technical Education pathway.

Students need to be aware of the GPA requirement, test scores and other benchmarks they need to meet to enroll in CCP.

3. Print enrollment and eligibility checklists

  • New CCP student enrollment and pathway eligibility checklists
  • High school transcript checklist (public/private/charter/homeschool)
    • Sample homeschool transcript
  • Special pathways checklists (only for eligible 11th/12th-grade students)
    • Medical Assisting
    • Nurse Aide
  • Cohort checklist (designated for specific high schools only)
    • Sanderson High School AOF Business Administration cohort checklist (Fall start only)

4. Apply to CCP

Only one application per student is allowed. Prior to starting your application, review the New CCP Student Application User Manual. Also, ensure all information and email addresses are correct before submitting. (Use only a personal email address such as a Gmail account.)

Current high school sophomores applying as New Students for the Summer term must meet 9th/10th grade eligibility requirements.

NOTE: Any student accepted for the Summer 2025 term as a New Student is required to complete a "Continuing Student Form" for the Fall 2025 semester if he or she plans to register for Fall courses (see the Current CCP Students page for details). Term options will be available on enrollment forms on the following dates:

  • Summer term: February 10
  • Fall semester: March 1

Apply now

Wake County Public School System students can find email addresses for their high school principal/designee to include on their application on the Resources and Links page.

Students who are notified that their application form is considered incomplete will need to review the instructions provided in the email correspondence.

Once the application is approved, new CCP students will receive an acceptance letter containing information and instructions on next steps for enrollment, including student Key Account activation.

5. Complete orientation and eLearning Intro

New CCP students are required to complete New Student Orientation for Wake Tech. During the orientation session, you will learn about college resources, student life, campus safety and course registration. The 2½-hour sessions are available in person at various Wake Tech campuses and virtually online. Students completing the orientation session online must pass the required quizzes with an 80% score or higher to receive credit.

Any CCP student planning to take a class that is either partly or entirely online also must complete the e-Learning Intro assessment. It provides a series of learning modules and quizzes to assist with online learning expectations, using the computer and navigating the Blackboard platform, and it must be completed before a student can enroll in an online course.

6. Review course registration onboarding and FERPA

New CCP students should review the course registration onboarding presentation and the FERPA Guide before proceeding with the enrollment process. FERPA, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education, such as federal financial aid for students, and the guide shows how to grant access to student records to a parent or another individual.

7. Plan and register for courses

Video on how to register for classes

Students can register themselves for classes in Self-Service during the designated CCP registration window. CCP staff will send a reminder email prior to the registration deadline. CCP Course Request Forms are available after the self-registration period has ended.

CCP students are allowed to take only courses within their approved pathway(s), and they also must follow limits on allowed credits and program-specific restrictions. Students who register for courses outside of their approved pathways will be dropped from those courses.

Students can confirm their approved pathway(s) and course schedule by logging into Self-Service or by scheduling a virtual advising appointment with CCP staff.

Registration resources

NOTE: The CCP Office can review and use AP scores (official or unofficial) for registration purposes only. Submit scores to [email protected] prior to registration to satisfy course prerequisites. An official AP Score Report can also be submitted to Registration and Records to be evaluated for college credit.

Also, CCP students are not required to go through the North Carolina Residency Determination Service before enrolling, so email CCP staff at [email protected] if you receive the notification "Cont. Enrollment/RCN Expire Before Term Starts" during registration.

After the registration period has ended, students can obtain a Course Request form from CCP staff if they would like to add a class. Submitting the form does not guarantee enrollment in a course, however. Students will be notified if their request is approved.

8. Get ready for class

  • Obtain Wake Tech ID and parking decal (Wake Tech IDs are required for proctored exams and various on-campus events.)
  • Purchase textbooks, supplies and course materials (CCP is a tuition-free program, but students are responsible for textbooks, supplies and course-related fees.)
  • CCP students must follow all Wake Tech academic policies and procedures.

Students should check their schedule near the start date for class. Occasionally, a department will choose not to offer a course after registration, which could affect a student's schedule.
