Social & Human Services

The Social & Human Services curriculum prepares graduates to work in various areas of the helping profession, including direct client care settings throughout the lifespan:

  • Residential care
  • Mental health
  • Services for the elderly
  • Community care services
  • Child protective services

Courses are focused on developing human services skills and competencies based on the Social & Human Services values and professionalism. Some of the skills and competencies will be case management, interviewing, crisis intervention, assessment, report writing, identification of needs and services and advocacy skills. In addition, students will take courses in other areas to facilitate a holistic approach to helping, such as psychology, sociology, biology and computer skills.

Employment opportunities in North Carolina may be found in residential facilities, Wake County Human Services and various private agencies. Jobs may also be available working with particular client populations:

  • Developmental disabilities
  • Elderly
  • Families and children

  2. Request official transcripts from high school or GED scores and college transcripts if applicable. Transcripts may be sent electronically to [email protected]. Once received, your file will be reviewed for admissions and course placement.
  3. Apply for financial aid and veterans benefits
