Governor Bev Perdue Visits Wake Tech

Wake Tech had an unexpected visitor Wednesday night. Governor Bev Perdue stopped by the Public Safety Education Campus to talk with students in some high demand short-term training classes. She spoke with students in a ten-week Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration course, as well as those in a three-month Certified Nursing Assistant class.

Wake Tech Students Receive Top Honors at Statewide Competition

Wake Technical Community College was well represented at Phi Beta Lambda's State Leadership Conference. Wake Tech students brought home 23 awards, including six first place honors. Phi Beta Lambda is the national academic fraternity for students in business and leadership.

Wake Tech's First Female Athlete Receives Full NCAA Scholarship

A starting point guard and shooting guard for the Lady Eagles basketball team has become Wake Tech's first female athlete to sign with a four-year university. Amelia Antonette Partin signed a letter of intent to play her last two years at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The offer comes with a full scholarship.

Wake Tech's Annual Culinary Arts Showcase Returns to The Raleigh Convention Center

If you could hit the open road and head out on a great adventure, what would it look like? For Brittany Sattler and Anna Lamm of Once in a Blue Moon Bakery in Cary, it would be a ride on the "Yellow Brick Road!" Their "Wizard of Oz" tiered cake took first place in a live two-hour cake decorating competition at Wake Tech's annual Culinary Arts Showcase.

Local Group Announces Support for First Responders

Local public safety officials will soon have help paying for the in-service safety training that is critical to the life-or-death services they provide. The 200 Club of Wake County has announced a donation of $10,000 to the Wake Tech Foundation to support training for law enforcement, fire safety, and emergency services personnel who live or work in Wake County.

Wake County Renews Support for Wake Tech's Fostering Bright Futures

Wake County commissioners continued their support for a program that helps former foster children earn college degrees. Board Chair Paul Coble presented Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott with a check for $50,000 today.

Army ROTC Cadets Participate in Air Assault Exercise

U.S. Army ROTC Cadets from Wake Technical Community College, NC State University and Louisburg College got first-hand experience in a military training exercise today. Two UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters from the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade from Ft. Bragg transported 150 Cadets on four separate lifts from Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh to the Wake Tech Main Campus.

Wake Tech Business Law Instructor Dr. Steve Prescott went bald today for a good cause! Students, faculty and staff watched as Cosmetology and Esthetics Instructor Angela Barbour shaved Prescott's head to raise money and awareness for research in childhood cancers.
