Army ROTC Cadets Participate in Air Assault Exercise

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 3, 2011) - U.S. Army ROTC Cadets from Wake Technical Community College, NC State University and Louisburg College got first-hand experience in a military training exercise today. Two UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters from the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade from Ft. Bragg transported 150 Cadets on four separate lifts from Dorothea Dix Hospital in Raleigh to the Wake Tech Main Campus. The aircraft conducted several flyovers and landed twice in the overflow parking lot behind the Automotive and Heavy Equipment Building on Main Campus.

The exercise was designed to train the Cadets how to safely board and exit a UH-60 helicopter during a practice mission to conduct Movement to Contact. The Cadets are training to prepare for the Leadership Development and Assessment Course which they attend each summer at Ft. Lewis, Washington.

Through a partnership with NCSU, Wake Tech offers Military Science courses in support of the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Candidate (ROTC) program. After completing their first two years at Wake Tech, Cadets are eligible to transfer to the NCSU ROTC program. Upon successful completion of all training requirements and a baccalaureate degree, each Cadet will be commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
