Scholarships are available for students enrolled in degree and non-degree programs. Degree students should read the following guidelines, while non-degree students should request assistance through Workforce Development Financial Resources and Student Support.

Scholarship eligibility

  • Foundation scholarships are available for new and returning students in degree programs.
  • Applications are accepted online from March 1 through April 30 for the following academic year. The link to the application will be available on this site during the application period.
  • Scholarships awarded through the Foundation are for use only at Wake Tech.
  • Scholarships require a minimum GPA of 2.0. Students are encouraged to apply if their cumulative GPA will reach 2.0 by the end of the Spring semester.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least three credit hours during the semester(s) in which the scholarship is awarded. A small number of scholarships require a minimum enrollment of six credit hours. If awarded a scholarship, your scholarship offer information will tell you if you must meet the 6-credit-hour minimum.
  • Most Foundation scholarships are open to all students, regardless of their citizenship status.

We encourage you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) and supply all necessary documentation to the Financial Aid Office prior to the April 30 Foundation scholarship deadline. This increases your chances of receiving any of the need-based Foundation scholarships, as well as available need-based federal and state aid.

Students who do not complete a FAFSA® will still be considered for all scholarships for which they qualify.

Application guidelines

  • The scholarship application consists of a small number of general information questions and one short essay based on the following prompt:

How will receiving this scholarship help you achieve your educational and career goals and give back to the college or community?

  • Detailed guidance on how to write your essay, including length requirements, formatting and examples, is available online.
  • Still need help with your essay? Contact Wake Tech's Writing Tutoring and Learning Center. Tutors there can help with brainstorming, organization and writing. All sessions are in person or online via Microsoft Teams, and both scheduled appointments and walk-ins are welcome.
  • Applicants need to submit only one application to be considered for all scholarships for which they qualify.
  • All scholarships are competitive and are based on criteria established by donors.
  • The scholarship application system automatically matches students with the scholarships for which they qualify. Students do not need to identify the scholarships they are eligible for in order to apply.

Scholarship process

The following 20-minute video and presentation slides provide a more detailed look at the scholarship process, including more information about available scholarships, who qualifies, what to expect after you apply and tips for making your essay shine.

  • Scholarship application evaluations are anonymous. An applicant's name, ID# and demographic information are omitted during the review.
  • Scholarship essays are assigned numerical scores based on content, grammar, spelling and punctuation. Essays are scored by three reviewers, and the scores are averaged.
  • Foundation scholarships are awarded based on the essay score and the scholarship criteria as set forth by the donor. That could include demonstrated financial need, academic information (primary major, credits completed, etc.) and academic performance (GPA).
  • Students are notified of award decisions via their Wake Tech email by early July.

NOTE: Finish Line grants are not awarded through the Foundation.
