Wake Tech is approved as a degree-granting institution for veterans and eligible dependents seeking educational or vocational training under Title 38, United States Code.
The college has been designated a Military Friendly® GOLD School – one of the highest levels of distinction – by VIQTORY, a company that connects the military community to civilian employment and educational and entrepreneurial opportunities. The designation is based on student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence and loan default rates – for all students, but specifically for student veterans.
Wake Tech maintains membership in Service Members Opportunity Colleges, which provides the following:
Veterans, active-duty service members and their dependents who wish to attend Wake Tech can use the following VA benefits:
Certifying eligibility for VA Education Benefits can take from 30 to 90 days and requires action from Wake Tech, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and, most importantly, the student.
Once a student's eligibility has been established and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has processed his or her benefits request, the student can register for classes. Wake Tech has set up a Veterans Priority Registration system to allow veteran students using GI Bill® benefits to register before the general registration period opens.
The VA has designated Wake Tech a Yellow Ribbon School, allowing the college to provide financial assistance to student veterans who aren't North Carolina residents, with matching funds from the VA.
Under the Yellow Ribbon Program, Wake Tech provides up to 50 qualified full-time and part-time student veterans up to $1,200 each. The VA match mean each non-resident student would receive up to $2,400 for tuition and fees that the Post 9/11 GI Bill® doesn't cover.
GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. More information about education benefits offered by the VA is available at the official U.S. government website.
