Online Certification Program

EPIC30 is a 30-hour certification for those wishing to teach online. Topics include Universal Design for Learning, making accessible digital content, learning to use Blackboard LMS, and best instructional design practices for online course design. This certification is available to the general public as well as WTCC faculty.

It is a requirement for all online instructors at WTCC to be certified. In addition to online faculty, seated and hybrid faculty have recognized the value and benefits of this training and have sought certification. To date, more than 600 faculty and staff have achieved online certification. The following pathways are available for certifying WTCC faculty.

Certification by Professional Development

A 30-hour professional development program has been developed to address the EPIC eLearning Quality Standards. Click on the EPIC30 List of Courses below to see the list of professional development courses and their recommended sequence.

Certification by Peer Review

An experienced faculty member (available to full-time employees only) can achieve online certification by submitting a complete course site that is aligned with the EPIC eLearning Quality Standards. A team of three experienced course/peer reviewers will review the course to affirm the course complies with all of the EPIC eLearning Quality Standards.


Available to New Faculty Only:

Certification by Mentoring

When a faculty member is assigned to teach online at Wake Tech for the first time, they may obtain certification by agreeing to work with an EPIC Master Certified Mentor within his or her department/program, and concurrently completing EPIC 30 during a period of no more than three 16-week semesters.
