EPIC30 is a 30-hour certification for those wishing to teach online. Topics include Universal Design for Learning, making accessible digital content, learning to use Blackboard LMS and best instructional design practices for online course design.

All online instructors at Wake Tech must be certified. In addition to online faculty, faculty who teach in-person courses have recognized the value and benefits of this training and have sought certification. To date, more than 600 faculty and staff have achieved online certification.

The following pathways are available for certifying Wake Tech faculty:

• Certification by Professional Development
  A 30-hour professional development program has been developed to address the EPIC eLearning Quality Standards. The EPIC30 course list details available professional development courses and their recommended sequence. Faculty should register for EPIC30 courses using GoSignMeUp.
   
• Certification by mentoring (available only to new faculty)
  When a faculty member is first assigned to teach online at Wake Tech, he or she may obtain certification by agreeing to work with an EPIC Master Certified Mentor within his or her department or program. At the same time, he or she must complete EPIC30 within three 16-week semesters.
