Wake Tech requires students in all degree, diploma or certificate programs to make satisfactory academic progress, defined as a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, based on credit hours attempted, throughout their enrollment.

Semester and cumulative GPAs are calculated at the end of each Fall and Spring semester, and students who meet the GPA requirements remain in good academic standing. Students who do not make satisfactory academic progress will be placed on Academic Warning, Academic Suspension or Academic Probation.

Academic Warning

A student is placed on Academic Warning the first time his or her cumulative GPA falls below 2.0.

Wake Tech places a registration hold on the student's account until the student completes a College Strong course via Blackboard. College Strong is a free, online support course that provides strategies for effective time management and other strategies for classroom success, such as understanding your learning style

Students return to good academic standing once their cumulative GPA returns to 2.0 or higher.

Academic Suspension

A student is placed on Academic Suspension if his or her cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 for a second straight semester.

At the end of Fall semester, the student will have a registration hold placed on his or her account. The student must complete one of the following to have the registration hold removed:

• Complete the Academic Success Workshop through the Tutoring and Learning Center
• Meet with an academic advisor and develop a plan to get back on track
• Meet with a success coach and develop a plan to get back on track

At the end of the Spring semester, the student will have a registration hold placed on his or her account. Additionally, the student will be dropped from any Summer and/or Fall courses for which they have registered. Any payments made will be refunded in full.

To have the registration hold removed and to re-enroll in classes, the student must sit out for one semester and complete one of the following:

• Complete the Academic Success Workshop through the Tutoring and Learning Center
• Meet with an academic advisor and develop a plan to get back on track
• Meet with a success coach and develop a plan to get back on track

Academic Probation

A student on Academic Suspension who has completed reinstatement requirements will be on Academic Probation for the semester.

Wake Tech will release the hold on the student's account, and the student can return to classes.

The student will return to good academic standing when his or her cumulative GPA returns to 2.0 or higher. If the semester GPA is 2.0 or higher but the cumulative GPA is still below 2.0, the student remains on Academic Probation for another semester. If the semester and cumulative GPAs are again below 2.0, the student returns to Academic Suspension for the following semester.
