Course Placement

Wake Tech is committed to student success, so we want to make sure you start with the right English and math courses to give you the strongest foundation possible as you progress.

Depending on your experience, you will start on one of these paths:

  • College-level course
  • College-level course, plus a supplemental course, or co-requisite, at the same time
  • Transition course to prepare you to take college-level courses

For most students, an unweighted high school GPA is used to determine placement in these courses:

  • 2.8 or higher (on a 4.0 scale): College-level course
  • 2.2 to 2.8: College-level with a co-requisite
  • Below 2.2: Transition course

Previous work at another college and scores from high school equivalency tests or standardized tests, such as the SAT or the ACT, also can be used to determine course placement. Be sure to submit any test scores you have.
