Intended Audience
Doctors, nurses, Dentist, Paramedics, or any other advanced medical career
ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led, refresher course that focuses on immediate post-cardiac-arrest care, including airway management and related pharmacology. The course also highlights the importance of care systems, team dynamics, and communication. Skills are taught in large group sessions and in small group learning and testing stations. The course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of cardiac emergencies. Through instruction and simulated cases, students enhance skills and clinical decision-making abilities for the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes.
Course Objectives
  1. Recognize and initiate early management of periarrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
  3. Recognize and manage respiratory arrest
  4. Recognize and manage cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post-cardiac arrest care
  5. Recognize and initiate early management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS), including appropriate disposition
  6. Recognize and initiate early management of stroke, including appropriate disposition
  7. Demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance

In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.
CE to CU Articulation
A working knowledge of EKG interpritation
Text and Supplies Needed
Most current ACLS Provider Manual, includes ACLS Pocket Reference Card Set, ALS monitor with rhythm generator, CPR, Intubation and IV manikins, ALS medications and IV supplies

Requirements for Successful Completion of this Course
  1. Attendance 90% or above
  2. Participation
  3. To successfully complete the course the student must attend the course and participate in the course. Skills must be completed to the satisfaction of the instructor and meet AHA standards and a minimum of 84% must be scored on any written examination
