Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation

The Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP) is a university transfer degree for students interested in becoming a licensed elementary school, middle school or high school teachers or special education teachers. The program is designed for those who want to teach in the humanities or social sciences.

Students take 60 credit hours of college transfer courses. That gives them the opportunity to transfer as a junior to any of 15 University of North Carolina System institutions or a number of North Carolina private colleges and universities. Students still must meet admission requirements at these schools.

In addition to 45 credit hours of general education courses, AATP degree students will also complete a social diversity course as well as the following four teacher education courses:

  • Teaching and Learning for All
  • Foundations of Education
  • Literacy Development and Instruction
  • Teacher Licensure Preparation
