Project Overview

Wake Tech's existing Western Wake Campus, located in a leased facility in Cary, will be relocated to a highly accessible 34-acre site on N.C. Highway 55 in Apex. The new Conlon Western Wake Campus will be part of the 1,000-acre Veridea development project that spans N.C. 55, U.S. Highway 1 and the N.C. Highway 540 expansion. The Veridea project also includes single and multi-family housing, commercial, industrial and life science space, which are not part of the Wake Tech project. The new permanent campus will be south of downtown Apex and north of downtown Holly Springs and will be within a few miles of most of the new and expanding biotechnology companies in that part of Wake County.

In addition to replacing the current leased facility, the relocated Conlon Western Wake Campus will make Wake Tech programs more accessible to residents of the western part of the county. The permanent campus will feature a new Workforce Center that supports training efforts for the growing biotech/biopharma/life sciences industry in the vicinity, as well as industrial training facilities and facilities for Wake Tech's simulation and game development, entrepreneurship and small-business programs.

Renovation of a 40,860-square-foot, two-story educational facility containing a mixture of classrooms, laboratories, study areas, storage rooms, administrative offices and other ancillary support spaces. The renovation is comprised of mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades to bring the building into current building code requirements. Cosmetic and building envelope upgrades are also included. The instructional programs aspect will not significantly change; however, some alterations will be made to accommodate current or anticipated programmatic needs.

The project is building a six-story Fire Training Simulator, a 10,000-square-foot Auxiliary Support Building and an eight-story Drill Training Tower to provide reality-based Fire and Rescue Service training for firefighters to serve their communities. The project is Phase 2 of the Public Safety Simulation Complex.

This project is a three-story simulation hospital, a four-story precast parking deck and a backfill renovation of an existing space in an adjacent building. The building is a structural steel frame with masonry, composite panels, curtain wall and punched openings on the exterior. Interior spaces include simulated patient care spaces, such as patient rooms, operating rooms, training suites and MRI/CT rooms. Spaces also include classrooms and computer labs. Programs served include Nursing, Medical Laboratory Technology, Pharmacy Technology, Social & Human Services, Medical Assisting, Radiography, Emergency Medical Science and Phlebotomy.

Project Overview

This project is a reality‐based simulation center for training programs based in law enforcement, Emergency Medical Science and unmanned aerial vehicle operations. The facility will include a training track to support emergency driver training, commercial driver's license training and motorcycle training. The simulation complex building is anticipated to be 77,824 square feet and will support reality‐based training for law enforcement and fire/emergency personnel. It will house a 4D Immersive Interior Training Village, including a two‐story downtown street replica and multi‐function and specialty training rooms. Unmanned aerial systems and flight training tied to future Industry 4.0 programs supporting high-tech student training will be incorporated into the facility. The project also includes associated extension of chilled water and heating water piping systems and the extension of roadways and parking. The Fire and Rescue Training Center is Phase 2 of the simulation complex project.
