Turn your love for animals into a successful career as a pet groomer! This course provides basic knowledge of pet grooming as well as hands-on experience in the field of professional retail pet care. You’ll work with dogs, under the supervision of a an experienced groomer. You’ll learn basic canine anatomy and learn about coat and skin disorders, animal behavior and safe handling and restraining, and grooming tools and techniques. You’ll also learn about the importance of quality customer service, for both animals and their owners.

Building upon the foundations in part 1, this is the second of a two-part series providing knowledge and skills for employment in a pet grooming salon. Participants will learn grooming standards for specific breeds as well as grooming and clipping techniques for thinning, cutting, and styling each one. They will also learn creative grooming for mixed breeds. Hands-on grooming sessions are an important part of the course.

A state-licensed wildlife rehabilitator, will show you how to rescue some native NC wildlife, including Eastern grey squirrels, flying squirrels, opossums, cottontails, and fawns. Taught by one of the few federally-licensed raptor rehabilitators in the area, this course will teach you how to rescue eagles, owls, hawks, falcons, and vultures. Course sections include capturing and controlling the animals, basic emergency care, supportive care, licensing, and paperwork.
