Nursing

The Associate Degree in Nursing program of study provides students with the knowledge, skills and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care in a dynamic environment. Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which is required to practice as a registered nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, physician offices, industry and community agencies.

Nursing program checklist

All applicants must complete the following requirements:

  • Apply to Wake Tech
  • Submit official transcript(s) to [email protected]
  • Complete the information session for Nursing.
  • Apply for financial aid and veterans benefits (if applicable)
  • Once admitted, follow the steps to enroll on the New Student Checklist

The Nursing (NUR) program is considered a limited-enrollment program since it receives more applications than it has available space. Acceptance is based on a competitive process with a point system, not a waiting list, and applicants are ranked based on grades earned in the general education classes required for the Nursing program, such as ENG-111, PSY-150 and BIO-168. Grades of "C" or better are required in all program-related curriculum classes. Only students who have submitted the Nursing program application and are accepted through the competitive process can register for NUR classes.

NOTE: All BIO classes must have an associated lab and be completed within five years of the first NUR class. The math proficiency must have been completed within 10 years of the first NUR class. A grade of "C" or higher is required in every class.

The following items are required by the program application deadline for the Nursing program selection process:

  • Submit the following materials to [email protected] between October 1 and January 31 for Fall entry or between April 1 and July 31 for Spring entry:
    • A completed Nursing program application
    • A copy of your active North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry listing. The listing must remain current through the first day of NUR-111.
  • Request ATI to submit official TEAS scores to [email protected] by the program application deadline.
    • Applicants must have a composite score of at least 59 or higher on the TEAS V or higher test taken within three years of the program application deadline.
    • Only two TEAS tests are allowed per calendar year, with a minimum of 30 days between each test. Review the TEAS Testing page for more information.
  • Meet the English language requirement. If students need to complete the TOEFL, scores must be submitted by the program application deadline. An online high school, GED or high school equivalency does not meet exemption requirements.
Details regarding English language requirement

If accepted into the Nursing program, students are required to attend a mandatory departmental orientation and complete all clinical site requirements.
