Medical Assisting AAS

NOTE: Wake Tech is discontinuing the Medical Assisting AAS program, so no new applicants are being accepted. Prospective students need to apply to the Medical Assisting Diploma program. Current AAS students can complete their studies or transition to the diploma or another program.

Students who have earned a Medical Assisting Diploma can choose to continue their education by completing the Medical Assisting AAS Degree, which is designed for medical assistants who desire an associate degree for career advancement or transfer purposes.

The program prepares health care professionals to perform administrative, clinical and laboratory procedures. Course work includes instruction in the following:

  • Scheduling appointments
  • Coding and processing insurance accounts
  • Billing, collections and computer operations
  • Assisting with examinations/treatments
  • Performing routine laboratory procedures
  • Electrocardiography and supervised medication administration
  • Ethical/legal issues associated with patient care
