Wake Tech to Train Heavy Equipment Operators with High-Tech Tools

Building contractors who depend on heavy equipment will soon have a new pipeline of skilled workers to operate that equipment. Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott announced today that the college will launch a high-tech Heavy Equipment Operator training program in January 2015.

Wake Tech students have a new resource to prepare for careers in the global economy. The college held a grand opening celebration for its new Confucius Classroom today. The Confucius Classroom is a collaborative initiative with NC State University’s Confucius Institute (NCSU-CI), and Nanjing Normal University and Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters in China.

Wake Tech’s First “Plus 50” Expo is a Success

More than 200 people attended Wake Tech’s first Plus 50 Expo today at the Northern Wake Campus. The free event – open to all but designed especially for those 50 and over – featured a robust agenda of workshops on financial planning, retirement, computer training, health and wellness, and entrepreneurship, as well as previews of non-credit classes offered through Wake Tech’s Continuing Education Division.

Wake Tech “Tops Out” On Building F

Workers with Skanska USA raised the final beam on Building F at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus today. A “Topping Out” Celebration was held at the construction site. “Topping Out” is a traditional event marking the completion of the structural frame of a new building. As part of the tradition, guests were invited to sign the beam, and workers placed a small evergreen on the structure to symbolize growth and to bring good luck.

Wake Tech marked September 11th with a tribute to that day’s victims and heroes, along with recognition of the first responders in our own community who risk their lives every day. Public safety professionals joined college leaders and other members of the community at the Public Safety Education Campus for the event.
