Sonography Program Mission, Goal and Outcomes

Mission

The mission of the Wake Tech Medical Sonography program is to provide students with a comprehensive education in medical sonography. The program is committed to providing the health care community with competent and professional entry-level sonographers.

Goal

To prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains for the abdominal-extended sonography concentration.

To prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains for the obstetrics and gynecology sonography concentration.

The students will:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of skills basic to the medical sonography profession (cognitive) for abdominal-extended and obstetrics and gynecology sonography concentrations.
  • Demonstrate competence in skills basic to diagnostic medical sonography (psychomotor) for abdominal-extended and obstetrics and gynecology sonography concentrations.
  • Students will demonstrate professionalism (affective) for abdominal-extended and obstetrics and gynecology sonography concentrations.

Program effectiveness measures

  • Demonstrate knowledge of skills basic to the profession
    • Utilize critical-thinking skills during the performance of sonographic exams to provide optimal results
    • Correlate ultrasound images with patient history and clinical findings
    • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills
     
  • Demonstrate competence in skills basic to diagnostic medical sonography
    • Efficiently perform basic abdominal, obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound examination at an acceptable level of competence
    • Provide proper patient care
    • Document complete and accurate findings of sonographic studies
