Wake Tech Graphic Design Student Honored

RALEIGH, N.C. (July 7, 2011) - Dr. Stephen Scott, president of Wake Technical Community College, today announced that Amanda Batchelor, a student in the Computer and Engineering Technologies Division, has received a $500 scholarship for her design of a logo for the Sphere Business Incubator in Fuquay-Varina. The Fuquay-Varina Economic Development Commission presented Batchelor with a check today during a special ceremony at Sphere. Batchelor's design was chosen from among more than 100 proposals submitted by Wake Tech students.

"We congratulate Amanda for her winning design," Dr. Scott said, "and we also salute Sphere for its support of small business and community development. Wake Tech is proud to be involved in this important collaboration, which will have lasting impact on our region."

The Sphere Business Incubator is a collaborative office environment that focuses on start-up businesses in simulation and game development, and defense technology. Sphere offers tenants access to fully- furnished office space and a shared conference room for $300 per month. Wake Tech Interior Design students also assisted in some key facets of the facility's design, including color and graphics.

"We were very pleased to be able to work with the talented students at Wake Tech to help us come up with a cutting-edge logo design for Sphere as well as interior design ideas for the space itself," said Larry Witek, chair of the Fuquay-Varina Economic Development Commission.

Batchelor plans to use the scholarship money to further her education at Wake Tech, where she is pursuing an associate in applied science degree in Advertising and Graphic Design. She is taking classes while working full-time as an interior designer and marketing specialist at an office supply store in Raleigh.
