College Announces New Apprenticeship Leader

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 15, 2025) – Wake Tech is pleased to welcome Caleb Gilley as senior director of Wake Tech Apprenticeship. Gilley comes to the college from the North Carolina Community College System office, where he served as a consultant for ApprenticeshipNC.

At Wake Tech, Gilley will oversee the college's apprenticeship program, funded by Wake County's WakeWorks initiative. Wake Tech now has nearly 500 apprentices working at one of 155 companies around the Triangle. Apprenticeships are offered in a variety of industries, including advanced manufacturing, automotive, biotechnology, HVAC, engineering and medical assisting. In 2024, the U.S. Department of Labor recognized Wake Tech as an "Apprenticeship Ambassador" for the college's commitment to providing apprenticeship opportunities for its students.

In his role, Gilley will continue outreach efforts to increase the number of employer partners offering apprenticeship opportunities.

Gilley served more than a year as a consultant for ApprenticeshipNC, which registers apprenticeship programs in North Carolina with the U.S. Department of Labor's Registered Apprenticeship program. Prior to his work with ApprenticeshipNC, he worked at Surry Community College, serving as an academic advisor, focused on Career & College Promise dual-enrollment opportunities for high school students.

Gilley has a bachelor's degree in Workforce Leadership and Development and a minor in Business from Appalachian State University.
