Open House Introduces Students to John Deere Ag Tech Program
RALEIGH, N.C. (February 18, 2020) – Area high school students intrigued by transmissions and engines learned about careers as agricultural equipment technicians at an open house at Wake Tech’s Southern Wake Campus.
The event introduced high school students to Wake Tech’s John Deere Agricultural Tech program, one of only 16 training programs in the country.
The program offers an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree and prepares students for highly-specialized work as technicians on John Deere equipment. The program also includes a paid internship, and in many cases, a full-time job upon graduation.
“Our students are graduating as certified John Deere technicians,” said Paige Kearns, Heavy Equipment Transport Technology Program Director at Wake Tech. “They can go anywhere in the country or the world.”
Within the agricultural technology program, students learn about diesel engines, powertrains, hydraulics, high-tech electronics, and computer diagnostics as well communication and customer relations skills.
The event attracted more than 200 high school students from across North Carolina and surrounding states. Current students in the John Deere Ag Tech program gave demonstrations, and John Deere dealers discussed career opportunities.
