AAS - Associate in Applied Science

Neurodiagnostic Technology (NDT) is the scientific field devoted to the recording and study of the electrical activity of the brain and nervous system. Technologists record electrical activity arising from the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, somatosensory or motor nerve systems using a variety of techniques and instruments.

Course work includes the following:

  • Developing communication skills with patients and health care personnel
  • Documenting patients' histories and clinical status
  • EEG
  • Electrode application
  • Understanding electrical waveform recognition
  • Managing medical emergencies
  • Preparing descriptive reports for physicians

Graduates will qualify for ABRET registry exams in electroencephalography (EEG) and evoked potentials (EP). Working under the supervision of a qualified physician, they may be employed by hospitals or private offices of neurologists and neurosurgeon.

Graduates can also transfer their Wake Tech credits to select four-year institutions to pursue a bachelor's degree.
