RALEIGH, N.C. (April 26, 2011) - A starting point guard and shooting guard for the Lady Eagles basketball team has become Wake Tech's first female athlete to sign with a four-year university. Amelia Antonette Partin signed a letter of intent to play her last two years at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. The offer comes with a full scholarship.
Partin scored more than 500 points in her two years at Wake Tech, leading the Lady Eagles in scoring in both 2010 and 2011. She holds the record for the most career three-point field goals at Wake Tech and was named to the NCJAA Region X All-Region team in 2011.
"Amelia is a competitive athlete who knows the game and has a determination to succeed," says Barry Street, WTCC Athletic Director and women's basketball coach. "She sees the floor well and can shoot the lights out from the outside if you leave her open. Couple that with her competitiveness and Amelia has all the tools to be successful at the Division II level."
Partin is a 2008 graduate of Wakefield High School, and will graduate with an A.A.S. degree in Business Administration/Human Resources Management this summer. She will start at UNCP this fall, majoring in Business Management.
Wake Tech is a Division I member of Region 10 in the National Junior College Athletics Association (NCJAA). Wake Tech's athletics program began in 2008. Game schedules and more information can be found at http://athletics.waketech.edu.
