Wake Tech Students Learn to Install Solar Panels
College Offers Hands-on Training in Partnership with City of Raleigh
RALEIGH, N.C. (June 15, 2011) - Students in Wake Tech's Solar Thermal training class installed a solar hot water system in a specially outfitted trailer at the college's Northern Wake Campus today. Entrepreneurs, contractors, and inspectors with the City of Raleigh got hands-on training that will continue tomorrow between 8:00 a.m. and noon. The class is part of Raleigh's Green Building Training Program which empowers technicians and small business owners with the knowledge and skills to market themselves in the growing green economy.
"Solar is one of the hottest growth industries and best business opportunities available today," says Tim Coats, Solar Instructor. "Solar thermal training is the best way to get started."
Solar Thermal is one of four short-term "green" training classes being offered through a partnership with the City of Raleigh's Office of Sustainability. The other three courses are as follows:
- Solar Photovoltaic, June 20-23, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Northern Wake Campus
- Sustainable Landscaping, September 27-29, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Walnut Creek Wetland Center
- Green Plumbing, September 17 - October 15 on Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., Western Wake Campus
The Green Building Training Program is free for individuals who live, work or conduct business within the city of Raleigh. There is a $25 refundable seat reservation fee for each class, which is returned upon completion of the class. The Green Building Training Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
