Wake Tech Reaccreditation is Official
RALEIGH, N.C. (July 13, 2015) - It’s official – Wake Technical Community College has received notice of reaccreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), its accrediting body. Reaccreditation takes place every 10 years and includes an extensive review of college policies, programs, and personnel. Wake Tech’s next reaffirmation will take place in 2025 unless program changes warrant otherwise.
Wake Tech received very high marks in both components of the SACS review following a three-day visit to the college last fall. The Compliance Certification Report documents Wake Tech’s compliance in core requirements, comprehensive standards, and federal regulations. The Quality Enhancement Plan, or QEP, is a way to engage the college community in systemic improvements. In both, the SACS committee reported “no recommendations” (for improvement), which means the college is compliant in all areas and no problems were identified – a very rare occurrence in the reaccreditation process.
Wake Tech’s QEP is called EPIC (E-Learning Preparedness Initiative across the College) and is designed to improve student success in online learning. Wake Tech serves more than 14,000 students a year in online classes – more than any community college in North Carolina. SACS Reaccreditation Committee members called the plan “fantastic” and said it clearly had “broad support” among staff, faculty and students.
“It’s good to know our reaccreditation is now official,” said Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott, “and we’re extremely pleased about the committee’s findings. We’ve worked hard to maintain a standard of excellence, and our entire college community is genuinely excited about our new e-learning initiative.”
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the recognized regional accrediting body in 11 states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia).
