Wake Tech Begins Fall Semester with Record Enrollment

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 17, 2015) - Wake Tech began the 2015-16 academic year on Monday, August 17, with record enrollment. More than 22,400 students flooded Wake Tech’s five campuses; at the Northern Wake Campus, enrollment is at 96%. Staff, faculty, and administrators were positioned strategically on all campuses to welcome students and provide information and encouragement. They were easily recognizable, wearing “Ask Me” buttons that featured Wake Tech’s torch logo.

Enrollment has continued to increase as the college strives to meet regional demand for education and training. One way Wake Tech accommodates rapid growth is by offering courses online, and the college now has more online students than any other community college in North Carolina. Wake Tech requires an orientation to online learning for first-time online students, and nearly 5,000 students have completed it. The goal is to enhance student success in online coursework, where students have lagged behind those in traditional, seated courses.

The college also continues to expand. Construction is progressing at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus, on a new, 87,000 square-foot building that will house a library and tutoring center, plus classrooms. The building is expected to open later this fall.

Wake Tech is bursting at the seams to accommodate community demand for its programs and services, adding faculty, expanding course offerings, increasing online options, and building physical capacity. With more than 70,000 students, Wake Tech is the largest community college in North Carolina.
