Wake Tech Foundation Welcomes New Staff Member

RALEIGH, N.C. (August 27, 2015) - The Wake Tech Community College Foundation is pleased to welcome local business leader Matt Smith as the newest member of its staff. Smith joins the Foundation as Associate Executive Director and Major Gifts Officer. He will work to grow private support for the college.

After 12 years of alumni and fundraising work at NC State University, Smith most recently managed North Carolina business development activities for Gilbane Building Company, an international construction company with a local office in Durham.

Smith was previously a member of the Wake Tech Foundation Board of Directors. He is active with a number of business and economic development groups, including The Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce (Government Affairs and Inter-City Committees), the Triangle YMCA (Property and Facilities Committee), the NC Economic Developers Association, The Construction Management Association of America (Vice President), and the Oak City Seven Concert Series (Organizing Committee).

Smith graduated from NC State with a degree in business management. He lives in Apex with his wife and two daughters.

“I am so pleased to join the fundraising staff at Wake Tech,” said Smith. “I truly believe that this college is the most innovative and relevant higher education institution in the region. I look forward to expanding the strong base of support we currently enjoy from generous donors and community partners.”

The Wake Tech Foundation partners with corporations, foundations, and individuals to raise resources to support the institutional and instructional needs of Wake Tech Community College. The Foundation manages an array of resources that are critical to Wake Tech’s success, including corporate investments, foundation grants, alumni and employee contributions, and financial and in-kind support from many other friends of the college. These resources allow Wake Tech to continue its 50-year tradition of providing top-quality, affordable education and training to the Wake County region.
