“Wake Tech got me started on a path toward working in a field that I love.”

MiShelle Devereaux is hoping to turn a little life turbulence into a successful aviation career. As a computer drafter, MiShelle’s job was cut during the economic downturn. She took a few classes at Wake Tech and discovered the associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology. It was the perfect fit for MiShelle, who is a private pilot. “Wake Tech got me started on a path toward working in a field that I love,” MiShelle says. She decided to enroll at Wake Tech full-time and turn her passion for flying into a career designing aircraft.

MiShelle is soaring towards that new career. She has a 4.0 GPA and was part of a team that won first place for a design project at the 2008 North Carolina Community College Pre-Engineering Student Competition. MiShelle also makes time to share her love of aviation. She volunteers with a non-profit organization that gives children an opportunity to fly in an airplane.

MiShelle says juggling her busy schedule hasn’t been easy, but she’s had help along the way. “Wake Tech instructors and advisors go above and beyond,” MiShelle says. “They’ve made it possible for me to succeed.”
