“Wake Tech gave me the push I needed to pursue the career I wanted.”

Josh Fairhurst has been playing games all his life – but they’re more than entertainment for him. “I always knew this was what I wanted to do,” Josh says. In his senior year at Cary High School, Josh learned about Wake Tech’s Simulation and Game Development program. He signed up for dual enrollment classes, earning AP high school credits while getting a jump start on a college career. He also landed a temporary job at Epic Games, working on the blockbuster “Gears of War 2″ video game, a highly-coveted position and an opportunity he says he couldn’t pass up. “As a tester, I was playing video games the whole time,” Josh says. “I worked long hours, but it was fun!”

Josh graduated from NC State in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, and now owns his own video game company, Mighty Rabbit Studios. He is fulfilling his dream of working in the Triangle’s growing digital game industry, using the skills he first developed at Wake Tech. “I always thought it would be hard to break into the industry,” he says, “but Wake Tech gave me the push I needed to pursue the career I wanted.”
