The event will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Please contact the Math Club advisor, Elisabeth Congdon ([email protected]), with any questions.
Event Format: The competition will consist of two parts: an individual competition in the morning and a team competition in the afternoon. For the individual competition, students will have the choice between two multiple choice exams,
A Calculus-based exam, which will include material from Calculus I and II. Calculus III material may be included. Questions will focus on limits, sequences, series, derivatives, and integrals.
A Mathematics Applications exam. This exam will not require any knowledge of Calculus. The possible applications include financial mathematics, game theory, graph theory, logic, probability, combinatorics, and computer science.
Each individual exam will have a time-limit of 90 minutes and calculators are not allowed. In the team competition, each participating college will form teams of up to 4 participants. College sponsors who register their students as a team will indicate their own teams. Students registered as individuals will be placed on a team by the competition organizers. One scientific calculator per team will be provided by the competition organizers. Questions in the team competition will each have a time-limit of 10 minutes and will be at the pre-calculus level.
