he newest building on Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus has received LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), verified by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen C. Scott announced the prestigious award today for “Building E,” which opened in 2012.

Runners and walkers are invited to help celebrate Wake Tech’s 50th anniversary at the first annual Road Scholars 5K Run/Walk. The race kicks off at 8:00 a.m. at Wake Tech’s Northern Wake Campus on Saturday, March 16.

Local employers are invited to hear about Career Programs at Wake Tech Community College. The first annual Employer Open House takes place Tuesday, February 12, from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Student Services Building on Wake Tech’s Main Campus.

Wake Tech employees and students worked together today to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a special service project. Volunteers gathered on Main Campus to package 10,000 meals for distribution to schools and orphanages around the world. The project was coordinated by Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief organization. The service project has become an annual event for the college.

Here in Raleigh, a new kind of higher education facility was opening its doors – one designed to train a new generation in the technical skills needed for the region’s emerging industries.

Four educators from Chile and two interpreters visited Wake Tech Community College today to learn about vocational/technical education at North Carolina community colleges. More than 44% of high school students in Chile are in vocational/technical programs, but many have a hard time finding jobs.

Creativity and competition are in the spotlight at Wake Tech! Pre-Engineering students from Wake Tech and Piedmont Community College faced off on Main Campus December 1 to showcase a prototype for a solar charging station for laptops and mobile devices.

Wake Tech Community College is getting help from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to improve graduation rates. Wake Tech is one of five North Carolina community colleges who will share a $4.3 million grant award as part of a national initiative called Completion by Design. The initiative is designed to help more young people finish college with a degree, certificate or other credential.
