Wake Tech Honors Community Advisors

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 18, 2012) - “You are our experts!” Those were the words of Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott tonight at Wake Tech’s annual dinner honoring the College’s 60 advisory committees. More than 400 professionals from the community serve on these committees, which support Wake Tech by helping to shape programs and ensure the relevance of course content and instruction.

Dr. Scott thanked committee members for their commitment to Wake Tech and lauded them for the wealth of expertise they contribute, saying, “You are our secret weapon.” The guest speaker was Allen Burchett, Senior Vice President for Business Development for ABB in North America. ABB recently made a $150,000 commitment to Wake Tech’s Ripple Effect major gifts campaign. “We think an investment in Wake Tech is a wise one,” he says. “We know that Wake Tech students will be our employees one day. We want to make sure they are well-trained to be the best that they can be.”

The Advisory Committee for the START Hospitality program was singled out for distinction as the Advisory Committee of the Year. START Hospitality has been highly-successful, with most graduates finding employment in the lodging industry immediately upon completion of the program. The committee includes Sameer Pawa (faculty representative), Lisa Banks, Cynthia Ferguson, Jane Godwin, Loren Gold, Greg Havenstein, Mark Latu, Mike Martino, Lonette Mims, Hillary Rapp and Jackie Saxton.

Four other committees were recognized as Outstanding: Accounting, Nursing, Web Technologies and Welding.
