Wake Tech Joins Raleigh College Consortium
RALEIGH N.C. (June 3, 2013) - Dr. Stephen Scott, president of Wake Tech Community College, announced today that the college will become part of an important local higher education initiative. Wake Tech is joining Cooperating Raleigh Colleges (CRC), a nonprofit consortium of higher education institutions in Raleigh and Wake County that promotes collaboration among its members and the community. Wake Tech’s official membership will begin July 1, 2013.
“Wake Tech is honored to join CRC member institutions to improve higher education in our wonderful community,” said Dr. Scott. “Raleigh offers so many educational options and pathways for students, and it is vital that our colleges and universities communicate and work together. Our relationships can further enhance the postsecondary experience for our students as well as helping our institutions thrive.”
“We are proud to announce the expansion of CRC as we welcome Wake Tech to our organization,” said Dr. Debra Townsley, president of William Peace University. Townsley is president of the CRC Board of Directors, which is made up of the presidents and chancellors of member institutions.
“This partnership strengthens our promise to build bridges between all higher education institutions of Raleigh for the betterment of our students. Higher education already has such a prominence throughout this community, so adding Wake Tech was a natural progression of our mission to encompass representation from all area schools,” Townsley said.
Townsley added that Wake Tech’s inclusion will be important in CRC efforts to ensure seamless transitions from two-year to four-year degrees, an initiative that aligns with the group’s commitment to postsecondary success and employment. Wake Tech will also bring wider expertise to the CRC in the form of a larger pool of faculty and administrators, as well as showcasing the community’s wealth of higher education opportunities. Wake Tech is North Carolina’s largest community college, serving more than 66,000 students each year.
Wake Tech joins a group that includes Meredith College, NC State University, Saint Augustine’s University, Shaw University and William Peace University. CRC members collaborate on a variety of programs and projects, including cross-registration, which allows full-time, degree-seeking students to take courses at no charge at any of the member institutions; professional development activities for faculty and administrators; and partnerships with community organizations.
