College Salutes Veterans

RALEIGH, N.C. (November 15, 2024) – Wake Tech is proud to host Salute to Service events in November to honor all among the Wake Tech community who have served their country.

Military Families Appreciation Night took place at the November 13 men's basketball game against Davidson-Davie Community College on Southern Wake Campus. Admission to the game was free for veterans and military families. The Wake Tech Honor Guard, led by Assistant Police Chief Wyatt Cumbo, a U.S. Army veteran, opened the game and presented the colors. Veterans and service members were honored at halftime and treated to a reception and gift. The Eagles lost a close game 87-84.

Other activities include complimentary donuts and boxed lunches for veteran students and military family members at various Wake Tech campuses. Wake Tech is also participating in Operation Greenlight with Wake County, a national campaign to highlight support for veterans by displaying green lights.

"We're honored to have veteran and military-connected students, faculty and staff as a strong part of our Wake Tech community," said Scarlet Edwards, associate vice president for Military, Veteran & Special Programs at Wake Tech. "The Salute to Service events are a small way of showing our appreciation for those men and women who have served and sacrificed so much for us."
