RALEIGH, N.C. (April 13, 2024) – Nearly 1,500 prospective students and their families explored and saw the many educational opportunities Wake Tech has to offer at Open House on Saturday.
Held at the Scott Northern Wake and Perry Health Sciences campuses on a picture-perfect spring day, prospective students explored the college's academic programs and learned about the admissions process, financial aid options and student support resources. They also toured the campuses with student leaders and saw classrooms and specialized training labs for nursing, dental hygiene, automotive, baking and more.
Some 60 guests attended the Juntos Family Day during the event to learn more about the post-secondary outreach program for Latino students.
Sarah Growney, a senior at Sanderson High School, said the event was impressive.
"I wasn't expecting so much hands-on support. I was able to work with admissions one-on-one and get my application in today, and that was really helpful," she said. "Everyone was super-friendly and accommodating."
"The campus is gorgeous, so open and inviting!" added Julie Growney, Sarah's mom.
Attendees also learned more about the opening of Wake Tech East, the college's newest location, and plans for the upcoming College Showcase and Community Celebration Grand Opening event at 5:30 p.m. on April 25. Conveniently located off Interstate 87 in Wendell, Wake Tech East will offer university transfer degrees, as well as specialized programs in engineering, public safety and aviation, and will serve its first students this fall.
In addition to degree programs, Wake Tech offers non-degree accelerated training to prepare students with skills to immediately enter the workforce. The college is offering an opportunity to learn about these programs during Workforce Wednesday, a virtual open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 17.
Wake Tech is North Carolina's largest community college, serving nearly 64,000 adults annually. All Wake Tech programs, even those traditionally designed to prepare students for immediate employment, offer opportunities to transfer to a university for further study.
