Scholarly Opportunities for Advancement & Research (SOAR) brings several high-impact programs at Wake Tech under one umbrella to share resources and best practices and to have a collective voice to make a larger impact on student success.

SOAR comprises the following programs:

  • Eagle Innovation Challenge – Students identify a problem to solve or a process to improve, contact an expert to research best practices and create an innovative proposal for change.
     
  • Global Education – Students have the opportunity to study in a foreign country and to earn a notation on their transcripts by participating in intercultural experiences, completing globally focused courses and taking part in international activities on campus.
     
  • Honors Program – High-achieving students who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree can earn college transfer credit and a transcript notation by completing a special assignment or project in collaboration with a faculty member.
     
  • Pathways Success Scholars – Coaching, peer mentoring, leadership development and Wake Tech resources help minority male high school students in the Career & College Promise dual-enrollment program succeed.
     
  • Peer Tutoring – Students provide assistance in specific courses, helping other Wake Tech students be successful while also deepening their own understanding of the subject matter and improving their communication skills.
     
  • Service Learning – Students complete 10 or more hours of community service and complete a reflection assignment to deepen their understanding of course materials and build valuable problem-solving and communication skills.
     
  • STEM Academic Research and Training (START) – A paid internship gives students a chance to participate in hands-on research and engagement in a variety of STEM-related projects with a faculty mentor.
     
  • Wake Invests in Women Career Guides Mentoring – Students have the chance to advance their professional growth and kick-start their careers by being paired with a career professional for personalized one-on-one mentoring. It's open to all Wake Tech students, regardless of gender.
