The college is closed December 21 through January 1 for winter break and will reopen January 2. Prospective students can still apply for enrollment online during the break, and continuing students can register for Spring semester classes.
The Health & Fitness Science program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for employment in the fitness and exercise industry. Students will be trained in exercise science and be able to administer basic fitness tests and health risk appraisals. They also will learn how to teach specific exercise and fitness classes and show people how to use of exercise equipment and facilities.
Graduates should qualify for the following positions in commercial fitness clubs, YMCAs/YWCAs, company wellness programs, parks and recreation departments and other organizations implementing exercise and fitness programs:
Wake Tech academic programs (credit and non-credit) that are designed to lead to professional licenses are tied to North Carolina or national certifications. If you intend to pursue professional licenses outside North Carolina once you have completed your academic program at Wake Tech, please refer to the Professional Licensure section of the college's distance education authorization page for additional information.
The Health & Fitness Science Associate in Applied Science degree is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the American College of Sports Medicine.
