Nursing is one of the most exciting and challenging professions in health care, and public polls show nurses are considered among the most trusted professionals. Wake Tech offers degree and non-degree options for training in the field, and all prepare students for relevant licensing exams.

The Martha Mann Smith School of Nursing at Wake Tech offers two options for students interested in becoming a nurse: the Associate Degree Nursing program and the Associate Degree Nursing – Advanced Placement program, which is designed for licensed practical nurses seeking to advance in the profession. The programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

Wake Tech also has a diploma program for Practical Nursing and non-degree programs for Nurse Aide – Nurse Aide 1, Nurse Aide 2 and a Nurse Aide 1 Refresher course – and Massage Therapy.

All programs are based on the Perry Health Sciences Campus, which is adjacent to WakeMed's flagship hospital in Raleigh. Please note that the Nursing and Practical Nursing programs use a competitive process for admission due to the large number of applications they receive.

Nurse Aide
Wake Tech's Nurse Aide programs introduce students to basic nursing skills needed in a health care setting and are approved by the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation.
Nursing
Learn the knowledge, skills and strategies to integrate safety and quality into nursing care and practice in a dynamic environment.
Practical Nursing
The graduate of the Practical Nursing (PN) program at Wake Technical Community College is prepared to practice as an entry-level nurse. Graduates of this program meet the education requirements to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN).

Professional licensure

All Wake Tech academic programs that are designed to lead to professional licenses are tied to North Carolina or national certifications. If you intend to pursue professional licenses outside North Carolina once you have completed your academic program at Wake Tech, please refer to the Professional Licensure section of the college's distance education authorization page for additional information.
