Credible Leadership (Online)

Course ID: SEF-3001O4   |   Details

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to leadership, ethics, character, supervision, communication and self-development for the developing leader in Law Enforcement. It is based on the principle that law enforcement professionals must lead within their scope of responsibility and must understand how leadership can achieve desired outcomes for officers, agencies and the community. The course is designed to fill the void in leadership training that traditionally exists between entry-level and mid-level supervision. It stresses the importance of understanding the true definition of policing and how officers’ actions and organizational mission must align with that definition. The course covers the expectations and responsibilities of first-line and mid-level supervisors and the concept of “Leading Down and Managing Up.” It examines leadership and ethics, including common ethical dilemmas in law enforcement and how they destroy public trust and individual careers. The course has four modules that must be completed consecutively, each consisting of video lectures from experts and written assignments based on assigned texts. Discussion forums are used to answer questions and encourage the exchange of ideas between students. Quizzes at the close of each lesson help clarify comprehension of the material.
