Campus Police Officers Complete Advanced Certification

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 17, 2021) - Two of Wake Tech’s finest were recognized today for going above and beyond in an effort to further their law enforcement training.

Officers Travis Smith and Cody Goldsmith completed the Advanced Law Enforcement Training Certification issued by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. The certificate has rigorous requirements. Officers must complete multiple hours of formal classroom education, professional training, and on-the-job experience.

“Completing this certification takes hard work and dedication,” said Wake Tech Campus Police Chief Michael Penry. “Officers Smith and Goldsmith bring their passion for law enforcement to campus every day and I am proud of their accomplishments.”

Travis Smith and Cody Goldsmith are stationed at the Scott Northern Wake Campus where they often work as a team.

“I am so thankful to be a part of Wake Tech and specifically Scott Northern Wake Campus,” said Officer Smith. “I absolutely love serving this community!”

Officer Goldsmith agrees with his partner.

“I am humbled to be on the Scott Northern Wake Campus surrounded by many students and employees who tell us every day how much they appreciate all we do,” said Goldsmith.

The Wake Tech Campus Police Department, established in 2012, is a fully-sanctioned law enforcement agency dedicated to protecting the life and property of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on all Wake Tech campuses.

The Advanced Law Enforcement Training Certification is part of the Law Enforcement Officers’ Professional Certificate Program, established by the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission to recognize the level of competence of law enforcement officers serving governmental agencies within the State, to foster interest in college education and professional law enforcement training programs, and to attract highly qualified people into a law enforcement career.
