Self-Service Resource Station Launched to Support Students

RALEIGH, N.C. (March 24, 2025) – Wake Tech has launched a new initiative to help students meet their basic needs. The Care Box is a self-service resource station on the Perry Health Sciences Campus (Building A, Room 155) that provides convenient access to essential items like orders from The Nest food pantry, toiletries and hygiene items.
Students can also order a laptop computer, a gas card or other type of assistance provided by the college's Care Center, which offers wraparound support for students.
To access items from the Care Box, students must apply for Care Center assistance. Once approved, their requested items are placed in a section of the Care Box, and an access code is emailed to them. They don't have to schedule an appointment or wait for assistance from Care Center staff.
The Care Box pilot program is funded by the Wake Tech Foundation. It is a direct response to the growing demand for resources that support students' well-being.
"By offering a self-service option, we are hoping to reduce barriers to essential support," said Michael Coleman, dean of Wake Tech's Care Center. "We want to make it easier for students to get what they need when they need it."
Although the Care Box is located on Perry Health Sciences Campus, any Wake Tech student with a smartphone can use it. Students who don't have a smartphone can go to a Care Center location for assistance. Virtual Care Center appointments are also available.
The Care Center offers a variety of services:
- Student Success Coaches
- Emergency financial assistance
- Wellness Services
- Technology assistance
- Transportation assistance
- Student Money Management
- The Nest food pantry
The Care Center also provides support for Fostering Bright Futures, Wake Tech's unique program to help former foster youth succeed. For more information on Care Center support and locations, email [email protected].
Wake Tech students can also pick up hygiene items, school supplies, and healthy snacks at The Perch, resource pantries located in libraries and Tutoring and Learning Centers on every campus.
