Spring Semester Begins with Enrollment Surge

Growth in Dual Enrollment Sets Record

RALEIGH, N.C. (January 8, 2025) – Spring semester began Wednesday at Wake Tech with another surge in enrollment. The college welcomed 25,000 degree-seeking students for the first day of classes – up more than 6% from last spring. The number includes nearly 21,000 continuing students and 3,900 new students.

Students braved the chilly weather to attend classes, obtain ID badges and parking stickers and familiarize themselves with campus locations. Wake Tech President Dr. Scott Ralls welcomed students and chatted with them about their classes and goals.

Returning student John Conforti is pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering Technology and chose Wake Tech because of the college's affordability and convenient locations.

"I live in between the Scott Northern Wake and Southern Wake campuses," said Conforti. "It makes it easy to get to my classes. I also love the students here. I haven't met anyone who isn't nice!"

One of the keys to Wake Tech's continued growth is the college's Career & College Promise (CCP) dual-enrollment program, which allows high school students to earn credits toward a college degree or a credential for employment – tuition-free – while meeting high school graduation requirements. More than 4,400 CCP students are enrolled at Wake Tech this semester – up 19% from last spring.

Another factor contributing to robust enrollment is retention, says Brian Gann, vice president of Enrollment & Student Services.

"Wake Tech is attracting new students and seeing more students stay longer and graduate," Gann said. "The college offers top-quality programs that serve our students and benefit the community and our local workforce."

Students in degree programs can save time and money with Wake Tech's textbook program called Eagle Advantage. The program ensures all required printed and digital textbooks are bundled and ready for pickup or delivery by the first day of class. Students can opt out of the program and source materials on their own if they prefer.

It's not too late to apply for Spring semester. Twelve- and eight-week accelerated classes start in February and March, respectively. Visit apply.waketech.edu.
