Wake Tech Mathematics Instructor Honored for Excellence
RALEIGH, N.C. (May 20, 2010) - Robert Kimball, mathematics instructor at Wake Technical Community College, has been awarded the 2010 Teaching Excellence Award by the North Carolina Mathematics Association of Two Year Colleges (NCMATYC). This is the first Teaching Excellence Award ever bestowed by the NCMATYC. It is designed to recognize an instructor who has made significant contributions in mathematics education at a two-year college in North Carolina.
Kimball has taught mathematics at Wake Tech for 29 years and served as Department Chair from 1983 to 2008. His prior teaching experience includes NC State University, Peace College and East Wake High School in Wendell. He is a past president of the NCMATYC and is active in several organizations, including the American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges (AMATYC) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM).
Kimball holds a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Mathematics Education from NC State University. He lives in Raleigh.
