Wake Tech closed for Thanksgiving

Wake Tech is closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Prospective students can still apply online, and current students can register for Spring semester classes. All classes will resume and offices will reopen on Monday morning.

Wake Tech Foundation Welcomes New Staff Member

RALEIGH, N.C. (June 7, 2010) - The Wake Technical Community College Foundation is pleased to welcome local business executive and community leader Virginia Parker as the newest member of its staff. Parker joins the Foundation as Director of Strategic Partnerships. She will develop major gifts for the college and work with members of the advisory committees that guide college programs.

Parker, a native of Greensboro, has been a Wake County resident for more than 30 years. She has worked in sales management with IBM and Xerox, managed community relations for First Citizens Bank, and most recently served as a business development officer at Paragon Commercial Bank. Parker has also been an active volunteer with organizations including Fostering Bright Futures, a program that helps former foster children in Wake County earn degrees from Wake Tech. She serves as Vice Chair of the statewide Communities in Schools of North Carolina Board and sits on various other boards, including the Wake Education Partnership, Triangle Land Conservancy, the North Carolina Theatre, and the John E. Rex Endowment. She was recently appointed by Governor Perdue to serve on the North Carolina Commission for Workforce Development. Parker has been recognized for her achievements with multiple awards, including the Triangle Business Journal's Women in Business Award in 2007, Business Leader Magazine's Finance Impact Leader in 2008 and the Junior League of Raleigh's Sustainer of the Year Award in 2009. She received her bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Meredith College and currently lives in Raleigh.

The Wake Tech Foundation manages resources and partners with corporations, foundations, and individuals to support Wake Technical Community College's institutional and instructional needs. The Foundation connects employees, alumni, members of the corporate community, private citizens, and others who are critical to the success of the college. Foundation scholarships and emergency financial assistance loans helps hundreds of students stay in school and pursue their educational goals each year.
