Wake Tech Celebrates Constitution Day

Congressman Bob Etheridge Brings Insight to "We The People..."

RALEIGH, N.C. (Tuesday, September 21, 2010) - Wake Technical Community College welcomed U.S. Representative Bob Etheridge to main campus today as part of the college's celebration of Constitution Day. Rep. Etheridge addressed students, faculty, and staff about the Constitution and its importance to Americans today. He talked about rights, freedom, and opportunities for education. "You (students) are making an investment that will affect your families years from now," Rep. Etheridge said, "You have a voice...you are voters, you are leaders, you are the future."

When the floor was opened for questions, Rep. Etheridge was asked what he thought our founding fathers would think of our country today. Rep. Etheridge replied, "All in all, I think they would be amazed and awful proud of the technological advancements we've made, the opportunities we have, and where we're headed."

The Congressman also took part in a roundtable discussion with a small group of Wake Tech students to discuss the retraining programs in which they are enrolled.

Wake Tech recognizes the anniversary of the adoption of the U.S. Constitution in September 1787 with an educational program each year. Students, faculty, and staff gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of our nation's founding document and the ideals of liberty, equality and justice embodied in the Constitution.
