Wake Tech's New Gymnasium Hosts First Pep Rally

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 20, 2011) - An enthusiastic crowd cheered at the first pep rally in Wake Tech's new gym today. Athletes, students, faculty and staff members dressed in the school colors of blue and gold for the event which helped kick off the men's and women's basketball seasons. The name of the college's mascot was also revealed. For years, the mascot was simply known as "the eagle," but in a college-wide contest, Wake Tech students and employees chose "Talon" as its new name. The eagle also got an "extreme makeover" with a new costume! In addition, fans at the pep rally were treated to skits, cheers and an athlete dance-off.
The 17,000 square foot gym on Main Campus, Wake Tech's first athletic facility, allows the college to host basketball and volleyball games. The men's basketball team will take the court tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. for a scrimmage game against Charis Prep of Wilson. The women's volleyball team christened the new gym last month when it kicked off its fall season.
Wake Tech's athletics program started in the fall of 2008 and is now has one of the most extensive community college athletic programs in the state.
