Wake Tech Trustee Elected to Statewide Executive Board
RALEIGH, N.C. (July 18, 2012) - Wake Tech Trustee Ron Wainwright has been elected to the Executive Board of the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees (NCACCT). The NCACCT is a non-profit statewide organization dedicated to furthering the goals and development of North Carolina community colleges. Its 19-member Executive Board, with members from six regions of the state, advocates for community colleges and provides training and support for trustees.
“A strong board is critical for a community college,” Wainwright says, “and trustees need training to serve their colleges well. I’m glad for this opportunity to provide leadership for my colleagues and to help community colleges across North Carolina fulfill their mission of educating the state’s workforce.”
Wainwright was appointed to Wake Tech’s board in 2008 by the Wake County Board of Commissioners. He is also a member of the Wake Tech Foundation Board of Directors and one of the leaders of the Foundation’s major gifts campaign, called “The Ripple Effect.”
Wake Tech President Dr. Stephen Scott says Wainwright’s extensive experience will benefit all of North Carolina’s community colleges. “Ron’s willingness to share his gifts with the NCACCT is another indicator of his genuine and long-standing commitment to the work of community colleges in our state.”
Wainwright will represent Region 3 on the NCACCT board, which includes Alamance, Davidson, Durham Tech, Forsyth Tech, Guilford, Piedmont, Randolph, Rockingham, Vance-Granville, and Wake Tech community colleges. He was elected by the 805 trustees who represent our state’s 58 community colleges. His four-year term began this month.
Wainwright is a former chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce and very active in the Raleigh community serving on the NC State College of Management Board and the Triangle United Way Board. He is a Tax Partner with Cherry, Bekaert & Holland, L.L.P., one of the largest CPA firms headquartered in the Southeast. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Auburn University, a Masters of Taxation degree from Georgetown University, with highest honor and is a graduate of the University of Chicago Executive Business Advisor Program.
