Local CEO Offers Advice on Starting A Business

RALEIGH, N.C. (September 25, 2012) - “Be passionate about what you do!” That’s the advice from Patty Briguglio, founder and CEO of MMI Public Relations, a full-service PR firm headquartered in Cary. Briguglio shared secrets of her success at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh today at a special event sponsored by the Wake Tech/Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship.

Briguglio told other small business owners and would-be entrepreneurs that the key to starting a business is to “under promise and over deliver.” “Always do what you say you’re going to do AND have fun,” she said. Briguglio has led her public relations firm to three consecutive Pinnacle Awards for Steady Growth and Profitability from the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce. MMI was ranked number one on the Triangle Business Journal’s list of Best Places to Work in the small business category for 2011 and recognized with the 2012 Cary Chamber Small Business of the Year award.

Briguglio says small business owners also have a responsibility to give back and help others. “If it doesn’t kill you to help someone out, then do it. It always comes back!” Before moving to Cary, Briguglio owned an award-winning PR firm in Phoenix, Arizona. She sits on numerous civic and charitable boards, and among her many awards is the 2009 Woman Business Owner of the Year Award from the Raleigh chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners.

The Wake Tech/Wells Fargo Center for Entrepreneurship was established in January 2010 as a resource center for potential small business owners. The Entrepreneur Speaker Series is a quarterly program where successful entrepreneurs share stories about their business ventures. The Center also offers scholarships for curriculum programs for college credit as well as continuing education courses, seminars and events, one-on-one counseling, small business resources, and a virtual “colony” of entrepreneurs for sharing ideas online.
