Local Employers Learn About Wake Tech Career Programs
RALEIGH, N.C. (February 12, 2013) - Wake Tech’s first annual Employer Open House turned the tables on the career fair model – as local employers “shopped” the college’s career training programs and met students learning skills applicable to their business. More than 70 local business and industry representatives attended today’s event on Main Campus. Dozens of Wake Tech career programs – from plumbing to web design to baking and pastry arts – offered their “wares,” and students, instructors, and department heads were on hand to share information and answer questions.
“This was a fresh approach,” said Deb Hadley, Dean of Career & Employment Resources. “The event gave employers a chance to get better acquainted with the college, meet some of our graduating students, and get a closer look at the caliber of training and career preparation we provide.”
Wake Tech programs represented at the event included electrical, mechanical, manufacturing and industrial drafting; plumbing, heating and air conditioning, welding, accounting, business administration, office administration, networking technologies, programming, simulation and game development, database management, web design, web development, advertising and graphic design, culinary arts, baking and pastry arts and hospitality management.
Local business and industry leaders play an important role in shaping Wake Tech’s career programs, to ensure that students are well-trained to meet workplace needs. More than 400 professionals from a variety of industries serve on advisory committees to help keep Wake Tech’s programs relevant and up-to-date.
