Wake Tech's Chief Fundraiser Receives Statewide Honor

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 28, 2015) - Wake Tech Executive Vice President Mort Congleton has received the Distinguished Service Award from the North Carolina Council of Resource Development (NC CORD). Congleton, who is also the Executive Director of the Wake Tech Foundation, was honored for his leadership at Wake Tech and for his service to colleagues across the state and nation. NC CORD is composed of resource development officers from community colleges across the state. Congleton received the Distinguished Service Award at the group’s annual conference in Shelby, NC. The award is given only at special times, when a candidate of merit has been nominated.
 
Mort Congleton joined Wake Tech as Foundation Director in 2005, and under his leadership, total assets for the Foundation have grown from $2.4 million to more than $12 million. In 2012 he led Wake Tech’s first major gifts campaign, which far exceeded expectations with a total of $17.6 million. Before coming to Wake Tech, Congleton served on the Raleigh City Council and was Executive Director of the SPCA of Wake County, where he was instrumental in creating the vision for the nationally-recognized Curtis Dail Pet Adoption Center. He is past president of the national Council for Resource Development, and serves on the Foundation Board for the North Carolina Community College System. In 2014 he was named Wake Tech’s Staff Member of the Year.
 
In addition to the Wake Tech Foundation, Congleton currently oversees the Grants and Sponsored Programs office, as well as Communications and Marketing.
